Lying is condemned throughout Scripture. The ninth commandment forbids false testimony. Proverbs 6:16-17 lists 'a lying tongue' among things God hates. Satan is the 'father of lies' (John 8:44). Christians are called to 'put away falsehood' and 'speak the truth' in love (Ephesians 4:25).

Sin is any thought, word, or action that falls short of God's perfect standard. The Bible describes sin as missing the mark (Romans 3:23), lawlessness (1 John 3:4), and rebellion against God. All humans have sinned and need God's forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
