Scripture-grounded answers informed by Matthew Henry, Calvin, Wesley, and the Church Fathers

What is grace in the Bible?

Grace is God's unmerited favor — his free and undeserved kindness toward sinners. It is not something earned by good works or moral effort but a gift flowing from God's character. In the New Testament, the Greek word charis conveys the idea of a generous gift given with no expectation of return. Grace is the foundation of salvation: God saves people not because they deserve it, but because he is gracious. Paul makes this the centerpiece of his theology, insisting that if salvation could be earned, grace would no longer be grace.

What does the Bible say about anxiety?

The Bible addresses anxiety with both command and comfort. Philippians 4:6-7 instructs us to pray instead of worry, promising God's peace. 1 Peter 5:7 invites us to cast all anxieties on God because He cares. Jesus told us not to be anxious about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34).

What happens after you die?

Christians believe death is not the end. For believers, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Unbelievers face judgment (Hebrews 9:27). At Christ's return, bodies will be resurrected—believers to eternal life, unbelievers to judgment. Our eternal state depends on our response to Jesus.

How do I pray?

Jesus taught the Lord's Prayer as a model (Matthew 6:9-13): begin with praise, pray for God's will, ask for daily needs, seek forgiveness, and request protection. Pray in Jesus' name. Be honest—God knows your heart. Prayer can be spoken, silent, short or long. The key is sincerity, not eloquence.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity—fully God, distinct from the Father and Son. He convicts of sin, regenerates believers, indwells Christians, and empowers them for service. The Spirit guides into truth, produces spiritual fruit, and distributes spiritual gifts.

What does the Bible say about forgiveness?

The Bible commands us to forgive others as God forgave us (Ephesians 4:32). When Peter asked if forgiving seven times was enough, Jesus said seventy-seven times—meaning unlimited forgiveness (Matthew 18:22). Unforgiveness harms us and hinders our prayers. God's forgiveness of us motivates forgiving others.

Who was Paul the Apostle?

Paul (originally Saul) was a Pharisee who persecuted Christians until encountering the risen Christ on the Damascus road. He became the greatest missionary, planting churches throughout the Roman Empire and writing 13 New Testament letters. His theology of grace shapes Christian understanding to this day.

What is salvation?

Salvation is God's deliverance of humanity from sin and its consequences through Jesus Christ. It includes forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God, and the gift of eternal life. Salvation is by grace through faith, not by human effort or good works.

What does the Bible say about love?

Love is central to Scripture. God is love (1 John 4:8), demonstrated by sending Jesus to die for us. Jesus said the greatest commandments are loving God and loving neighbor (Matthew 22:37-39). 1 Corinthians 13 describes love's patient, kind, selfless nature. Love is the mark of true disciples.
