Pride is consistently condemned in Scripture as the root of many sins. 'Pride goes before destruction' (Proverbs 16:18). God 'opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble' (James 4:6). Satan fell through pride. We're called to humility, considering others more significant than ourselves.

The Beatitudes are Jesus' eight 'blessings' opening the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-12). They describe the character of kingdom citizens: poor in spirit, mourning, meek, hungry for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, and persecuted.
