Who was John the Baptist?

John the Baptist was Jesus' cousin and forerunner, prophesied by Isaiah as 'a voice crying in the wilderness.' He preached repentance, baptized in the Jordan, and declared Jesus 'the Lamb of God.' Jesus called him the greatest born of women. He was beheaded by Herod for confronting sin.
